About
JUSTIN SMAINE
I grew up in South Lake Tahoe, California. Both of my parents were ski instructors while I was growing up and I learned how to ski at just 18 months old. At six years old, I joined the Heavenly Ski Foundation and started ski racing. I continued skiing through my school years, competing nationally on the Far West racing team. I was nationally ranked in top 100 FIS racers for my age in both GS and Slalom. My high school ski team also won state championships three years in a row, in my freshman through junior year of school. I learned how to DJ in high school as well. After sustaining a couple injuries skiing, I committed more of my time to my DJ craft after high school.
I got my DJ name Crowd Surf League from another hobby of mine, surfing. I learned how to hand shape surfboards in college and was hooked. I was in love with the electronic/rave scene and started putting some of my favorite DJ's logos on my surfboards. In 2018, I ended up making a board for a group Brownies&Lemonade, where What So Not was the headliner of the show. I crowd surfed on my surfboard I made at the show and the legend started there! I made more boards for Fisher and Jauz, which helped me continue to grow my network in the music industry.
I've been playing at club venues now since 2021. Since starting professionally DJ'ing, I've had opportunities to open the evening for amazing artists. I've opened for John Summit, Fisher, Chris Lake, Odesza, SG Lewis, Discolines, Ship Wrek and more! This past winter season, I focused a lot of my time to playing at ski resorts where I grew up. I had the opportunity to DJ at ski resorts including Heavenly, Sierra at Tahoe and Homewood ski resorts. At Heavenly, I was brought on for big events such as their Toyota Air & Apres show, Tahoe Yoga Festival and Closing Day apres party sponsored by Kona.
